BAGS

Bags range from small hip bags to utility based gym bags, no matter the size the graphics, trims, and details are always at the forefront of my approach. Below is range of trim exploration, repeat prints (bottom), placed graphics, material exploration, and a general approach of pushing the designs within the brand while creating a visionary approach to what most would consider a traditional silhouette. Whether that be through cut of placed screenprints or runaway NIKE logos, or even an easter egg Spongebob it’s important that every design is unique while paying attention to the execution for the highest quality of product. Additionally many of the trims and “material” graphics have been mocked up as sample quality versions; as seen in the holiday collection.

  • Exploration in various trims from 3D silicone molds, webbing, zipper pulls, decorative overlays, woven labels playing with various materials such as tyvek and monofilament and more

  • Placed graphics range from a variety of techniques such as screen print, embroidery, silicone, HD embroidered patches, and more.

  • Repeat Patterns vary from placed repeat to roller repeats. All repeats vary from roller sublimation to rotary screen printing with engraved rollers.

  • Material Graphics range from repeat prints, laser cut graphics, sandwiched materials, and trim material graphics such as draw cord graphics. Additionally graphics can be made with stitch lines and material blocking.

MOMENTUM COLLECTION

The initial collection was inspired by the Tokyo Olympics and the culture of travel and Shinkansen travel (bullet train). With travel at the top of mind, the bag itself was designed for various ways of consumer wear while on the go, the bag includes a passport sleeve, belt clip and various pockets. With that being said it was important graphics were designed to be interchangeable depending on how the bags are linked together per the consumers choosing. Additionally with the theme being Shinkansen travel it was important for me to show movement in the graphic while still keeping the graphic brand forward. The lines and placement were ultimately placed in a way that mimic the yellow hazard line on the Shinkansen platform; this was also carried through in a webbing strap emboss.

HOLIDAY COLLECTION

The holiday bag collection inspired by the winter puff jackets we typically see in the season was designed to be double sided with satin/velvet options. The graphics were kept clean with a sewn down patch and silicone screenprint. The stitch down lines went through various line exploration; some of which you can see in the mock up samples I created.

OFF THE GRID COLLECTION

Off the Grid collection was inspired by city hikers with an exploratory inquiry. The trendsetter design utilizes overlay of materials to create various graphic illusions. Including logo placements in that center around materials exploration and visual texture play. Additionally graphic textures can be seen in the silicone Nike branded sewn on labels and woven labels.

BASKETBALL ELITE COLLECTION

The Elite Collection centers around bringing the professional bag needs to the everyday basketball player. The graphics play with a variety of techniques from large silicone embossing, monofilament chain link fence Elite label, Embroidery, and silicone screen printing. The variety of execution is collected and placed with the players usage in mind and the wear and tear that each graphic will endure for lasting quality.

NIKE UTILITY COLLECTION

The Nike Utility Collection designed with the variety of gym visits in mind; this rugged exploration in gym bags plays with heavy materials, durable straps, air bags, and webbing details; in addition the premium bag within the Utility bag collection incorporates a collapsable shoe compartment. With the Utility/ durable qualities at the forefront of the design, the graphics focus on endurance with a 3D silicone sewn down label and infographic labels for the shoe department and various bag iterations.

SPONGEBOB X KYRIE X NIKE COLLECTION

The collab was a graphic opportunity to take a new approach on an old execution. With a focus on a new take of Spongebob and Friends backpacks, I focused on what made each character different, whether it be Spongebobs socks or Patricks shorts rather than their faces. I wanted to make that more of a discovery moment for the kids rather than the obvious highlight of the bag.

DOERNBECHER PROJECT

The Doernbecher project connects Doernbecher’s young patients with designer to create their own line of products. The bags focus on trim exploration, reflectivity, easter egg graphics and most importantly each kids vision. Below is a sampling of the products I worked on.

BAG PRINTS

A variety of prints made to be bag right for each collection and with the material in mind. Each print was made with special attention to line weight and texture to make it right for the variety of weights and printing techniques including Digital Prints and screen printed engraved rollers. Additionally placed graphics were used on a few of the bags to make the bag stand out from the usual execution.

PAPAMONTY

PAPAMONTY has been a passion project since 2013. It spawned from an event No Bones for Halftones where I designed the Portland Skull Tee. Patreons came to the event for a chance to get a free screenprint with all donations going to the event and local clothing companies who support houseless and unemployed members of the community. With the outpouring of support I received, i’ve since launched more products under the umbrella of PAPAMONTY all focused on a black and white aesthetic and custom typeface.
